Good Sale Horse Photos Can Help You Sell Your Horse!
Professional sale horse photos are a must in today’s digital market. Quality Sale Horse Photos can make you look professional, and may even help the overall tone of your sale. I can’t stress the importance of having an equine photographer take them. Lower level cameras and incorrect lens selection can cause distortion. Therefore, an Equine Photographer has the RIGHT gear and knowledge of lenses to make your horse look its absolute best.
So let’s start with lens selection. If you’ve ever attempted to take sale horse photos with your cell phone camera, you probably know what I’m talking about. As a result, your horse probably looked larger in the front end and smaller in the hind end. Definitely NOT a desirable outcome if you’re trying to sell a horse. However, most of this distortion has to do with the lens of your phone camera. A professional equine photographer will have much better lenses that don’t cause distortion and result in crystal clear images.
Next, lets talk about editing. I am a firm believer that editing on a set of sale horse images should be minimal. First and foremost, the main reason for this is accurate representation of the horse. Your horse should be properly cleaned, clipped appropriately for your breed, and dry. Major bonus points for horse “makeup” such as shine polish, a clean leather halter and polished hooves. Editing can not make a dirty horse look clean. Editing should NOT be used to alter the appearance of the horse. This is an ethical issue and I stand by it.
Firstly, I make sure the horse in on flat ground and in good lighting. This provides the most accurate and clear image possible. Tack and turnout should be appropriate for the breed and discipline. Typical editing includes lead rope and rein removal if desired. Occasionally, a “fifth leg” appears if we are shooting geldings or stallions. If your dude won’t put the mouse back in the house for our session, I will kindly remove it in Photoshop.
See below for some examples of Sale Horse Photos that I offer. Additionally, I have another blog post on a set of Sale Photos that also included under saddle images. If you want to be super fancy, black background portraits are also a really nice professional choice when offering a horse for sale. Equine Liberty is also a nice touch for younger horses. All images below were shot for Edsall Performance Horses in Oakdale, California.
