with American Quarter Horses Rip and Cowboy
I love doing Western Black Background Portraits. Especially with American Quarter Horses Rip and Cowboy. Obviously, Equine Black Background portraits are wildly popular in the English riding disciplines. Naturally, I love to see them done with Western Horses too!
Black Background portraits are easy to do with the correct set-up. Especially since all it takes is a solid sided covered barn aisle. As a result, the dark background effect happens naturally in camera. Subsequently, the rest of the magic happens in Lightroom and Photoshop.
Undoubtedly, my favorite part of the session was the number of times Stephanie said “I love this animal”. Naturally in reference to her American Quarter Horse “Rip”. Obviously, I love a girl that loves her horse. Similarly, the way “Cowboy” loves his girl Jaxyn is clear.
It’s so important to have a trusty steed when leaning to ride. While Jaxyn has been riding for a while, its still nice to see Cowboy take care of his girl. Clearly, he is a gentle soul. Most importantly, he loves her.
Since Stephanie is an equine vet tech, she has worked with many horses in her life. However, it was clear to her that Rip was special. While we were shooting, she mentioned several times how significant Rip is to her. Without a doubt, I love hearing that! As a result, this is exactly why I think you should have portraits done of your horse. Because they are important and significant to you. Most importantly, because you love them back.
