Anna and Ghost
For this Shiloh West Eventing Session with Anna and Ghost, I traveled to my hometown. I love serving the Bay Area for equestrian sessions. Since it always reminds me of riding as a kid. Inevitably, I will always scope out my old haunts on these trips home. From learning to ride at Golden Gate Park Stables to the Stanford Red Barn. Needless to say, some of my favorite places.
When Anna first emailed me regarding a session, she mentioned her grey mare “Ghost”. Obviously, I have a weakness for grey horses and mares. Needless to say I was eager to meet Anna and Ghost. Anna competes in 3-Day Eventing and rides at the Shiloh West Equestrian Center. Ghost’s dapples did not disappoint and she has to be one of the biggest and most beautiful horses I’ve ever seen. This Shiloh West Eventing Session resulted in one of my favorite Black Background Portraits to date.
I find that most Eventers are thrill seekers. Therefore, I had to ask Anna if she considered herself an adrenaline junkie. A resounding “Yes!” was my answer. Evidently, Anna and her husband love extreme sports and events such as sky-diving and more. However, I am a nervous nelly by nature so I am the opposite of a thrill seeker. Luckily, I felt no judgement from Anna and her husband. Obviously, they are both some of the kindest people ever.
When a horse is so clearly loved, I know it’s going to be a great session. Without a doubt, Ghost is a very loved horse. Simply put, you can see it in someone’s eyes when they look at their horse. That is my kind of person. Someone that radiates love towards their steed. Whereas some might think it’s due to Ghost’s beauty, I believe its something else. It’s the trust Anna and Ghost have as they fly over cross-country fences and the partnership that hard-work creates.
