with Shayna, Grey and Elliott
This Central Coast Equine Photo Session was nothing short of magical. Further proof that amidst a crazy world, there is beauty everywhere. Especially when horses are involved. I was thrilled when Shayna reached out for a photo session. Especially since she wanted to include her older gelding as a surprise for her family. Due to the covert operation of this session, Shayna had to think of a good excuse to pick up Grey from her family in another county. Luckily branding season provided the perfect cover.
If you know me, you know I LOVE grey horses. As fate would have it, Shayna has two grey horses. Elliott is her young up and coming cow horse. He is amazingly gorgeous and it looks like Shayna has an amazing handle on him. I’m excited to see what the two of them accomplish in the future. We photographer Elliott in his hackamore and I absolutely loved the color palette of it with his coat. I love seeing the way a grey horse changes colors throughout their lifetime. Therefore it was super neat to see a young grey as well as an older grey in the same session. Since I’m obsessed with greys, I found them both absolutely stunning in their own ways.
Since Elliott is a baby, he was great at hanging tough for a shorter period of time. When he decided he needed a break, we focused on Grey (and this my friends is why you hire an equine photographer who knows horses – we can tell when one needs a break). Grey is an older gelding that has been the main mount of every member of Shayna’s family at different times. Clearly he is a solid citizen and seemed perfectly happy to have attention lavished on him for our entire session. Additionally, he stood perfectly for every shot and went anywhere we wanted to go. God Bless old ranch horses. They are worth their weight in gold.
Again, we got lucky with perfect light, wonderful horses, Shayna’s cute dog. Therefore, a perfect Central Coast Equine Photo session as far as I’m concerned.
