with Becky and Ramiro
I loved this beautiful California Vaquero Photo Shoot with Becky and Ramrio. Obviously, California history and Mexican history are closely intertwined. The Spanish vaquero tradition made its way through Mexico in 1519. Subsequently making its way up into California. Therefore the American cowboy comes from vaquero tradition. Furthermore, the horse training techniques are still seen today.
Mexican rodeo or charrería is born from Mexican culture. It is so deeply rooted in Mexican culture that UNESCO has categorized it as “intangible cultural heritage”. While the male charro is recognizable, the female counterpart is not often seen. Naturally, I’m drawn to the female aspect for the gorgeous gowns and horsemanship. Undoubtedly, it takes a lot of practice to be a part of Escaramuza.
Essentially, escaramuzas are the rodeo queens. However, they perform as a team. Executing movements and drills carefully choreographed. Naturally, this requires lots of practice. Especially since they ride side-saddle the entire time. Obviously, my favorite part is the attire. While I’ve known Becky for awhile now, I have never photographed her in her escaramuza dress before. Naturally this California Vaquero Photo Shoot was a perfect time to do it.
Since her boyfriend Ramiro was in town, we decided to photograph them together. Ramiro competes in team roping and charro events. Though his specialty is trick roping. After the sun went down, we shot some silhouette shots. Undoubtedly these were some of my favorite photos. Subsequently, the internet seemed to like them as well. As a result they were some of my most “stolen” photos this year. Which, I guess means something. Mostly, that people need to read up on copyright law.
Regardless, I hope you enjoy this California Vaquero Photo Shoot with Becky and Ramiro. To book your own session with me, click here.
