2017 Spain Trip
Back in 2017, I took a California Equine Photography trip to the Andalusia region of Spain. People always compare the California landscape to Spain’s so I figured I would scope it out! Obviously, I have a deep appreciation for the Andalusian horse. I think that’s apparent by now. As a result, I jumped at the opportunity to go to Spain when it presented itself. Especially since I knew eating jamon and bread was going to be a major event.
Luckily, my mom got to come on the trip too! Coincidentally, she had just traveled to the region and wanted to go back. She’s a great traveler so I figured the opportunity for mother daughter bonding was pretty good. Furthermore, my mom and I are both big architecture fans so that was a fun aspect to take in as well.
In addition to churches and stone streets, the food in Spain is spectacular. However, our biggest take away is how kind the people are. Everyone we met was so welcoming and lovely. Especially since we spent the night in a historic Spanish home and ate the most amazing homemade paella ever. The family that hosted us for the night also put on an impromptu flamenco dance and invited their friends over to sing. It was incredible!
The Spanish hillsides are covered with olive trees and Andalusian breeding farms dot the landscape. Basically, it’s Heaven. We ventured into Sevilla for a whole day and experienced the beautiful Plaza de España. The tile work alone is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Last but not least, we spend the evening at SICAB. SICAB is the International Purebred Spanish Horse Trade Fair is the most important event for PRE Horses in the world. It was such a treat to be able to go. Definite capstone for this California Equine Photography trip to Spain!
My mom and I spent the last few nights in Madrid. Since food is paramount in Spain, it was no surprise we discovered an amazing gastro market. Imagine the best farmer’s market you’ve ever been to, but with high end food and ridiculously cheap prices. Needless to say, this California Equine Photography trip did not adhere to any sensible diet.
